The Ford Mustang Bullitt has graced the SN95 and S197 platforms as special edition, limited run models. They paid tribute to iconic Bullitt movie starring Steve McQueen. There are plenty of internet rumor floating around that the new S550 Mustang platform will also get a limited run of Bullitt Mustangs. The staff of AutoBlog.com believes Ford will bring back this iconic Stang as a 2015 Bullitt Mustang. They also think they might have caught a spy picture of it (see below).
What are my thoughts on this? I don’t think the pictures show a 2015 Bullitt Mustang; however, I could see Ford releasing one down the road as a 2017 Bullitt Mustang. My wish list for the S550 Mustang version of the Bullitt Mustang would be the Coyote 5.0L engine with a boost in power, improved suspension, Brembo six piston brakes & the iconic Highland Green paint (the Guard Green would be just fine too).
While the 2008-09 Bullitt Mustang featured an amazing suspension upgrade and interior upgrade, it lacked serious performance upgrades beyond an aggressive axle back. The 2001 Bullitt received improved suspension, brakes, interior as well as multiple performance enhancements. The 2001 Bullitt received improved flow exhaust system, underdrive pulleys and a custom aluminum intake manifold that boosted horsepower and gave a noticeable torque improvement!
According to our spy photographers, the paint is a "dead-ringer" for the Dark Highland Green that has signified these special edition Mustangs. While we're inclined to agree, it's also worth pointing out that this shade looks very similar to one of the 2015's other new colors, Guard. We've yet to see one on the road (let alone in such dreary conditions), so it's tough to say for certain.Brandon Turkus Are you Ford's next Bullitt Mustang?
With all the 2015 Mustang rumors flowing, I truly don’t think this is a 2015 Bullitt. I do think there will be a special edition S550 Mustang but I don’t think it will be a Bullitt right out of the gate. I would expect to see a 2015 GT350 before a Bullitt.
