As we gear up for the 2015 Mustang’s release, we figured what better way to say goodbye to the S197 platform than building a one last project car! If you have followed any of our previous project cars you have noticed that they have all been standard transmissions. This time around we are starting with a 2014 Ford Mustang GT with an automatic transmission. This Oxford White Premium Package GT features the super popular 5.0L Coyote Engine and Ford’s newly redesigned 6 speed automatic transmission.
While the 5.0L Coyote motor is a potent power plant from the factory, there is still plenty of room for improvement. We will be throwing a whole host of performance mods at this 2014 Mustang. This S197 didn’t come fully loaded so it doesn’t have the Brembo Brake package. We will be addressing the brakes to help slow down the new found performance modifications. When compared to Project High Impact’s suspension, this Mustang build is going to need the book thrown at it when it comes to improving handling. Lastly we will be transforming the exterior with the help of some Roush Performance Parts.
This Mustang project car will feature performance parts from companies such as Roush Performance, Ford Racing Performance Parts and many more. As this project evolves into one mean street machine, we will continually be adding video and articles detailing the build. Be sure to check back often, watch the videos below and feel free to leave us comments on what you think we should do next with our new project car!
Stage 1 of our 2014 Mustang project is to completely transform the front end of our latest project car. We decided to drop the boring front end and replace it with Roush RS3 inspired look. This front end transformation included a Roush front chin splitter, high flow upper grille, lower grille delete, fog light kit & hood scoop install.
In typical LatemodelRestoration.com fashion we took the time to show you how you can install all of these Roush Performance Parts on your own 2013-14 Mustang! Follow along in the videos below to watch us completely transform the front end of our project car.
An easy way to add some aggressive exterior styling to any Mustang is with a front chin spoiler. Roush has stepped up to the plate with their impressive 2013-14 Mustang front chin splitter. This splitter is the same one featured on the powerful 5.0L supercharged Roush RS3. It gives your Mustang an aggressive race inspi... more
The Roush RS3 features killer looking upper and lower front grilles. The Roush upper grille deletes the factory grille mounted fog lights in exchange for improved cooling and aggressive styling. That doesn’t mean you have to go without fog lights if you choose to install one of the Roush upper grilles. Roush offers... more
Most Mustang mods either improve performance or improve your styling. It is a rare combination to find a Mustang part that gives you both performance and styling. The 2013-14 Mustang Roush upper grille does just that! Not only does it give you an aggressive race inspired look found on the Roush RS3 but it also improves... more
If you want to improve the cooling performance of your front mount intercooler or heat exchanger then you need to look no further than the Roush lower grille delete for 2013-14 Mustangs. At the end of Stage 1, we had completely transformed the front end of our 2014 Mustang GT with a Roush RS3 Conversion. In Stage 2 we decided to finish off the Roush conversion with a rear valance kit and exhaust. We finalized Stage 2 by giving our project Mustang an aggressive stance and improved handling with a Ford Racing Performance handling pack. We also added a set of 20” Roush Hyper Black Wheels to give the car a true Roush Performance look!
The Roush Rear Valance is designed to clear the Roush Square Tip Axle Back Exhaust. This rear diffuser and exhaust kit further adds to the aggressive exterior styling. The styling isn’t the only thing that is aggressive with this kit. The exhaust tone sounds amazing with its deep American muscle car tone with minimal interior exhaust drone.
The Ford Racing pre-assembled performance handling pack made for a super simple suspension upgrade. The front struts, lowering springs and strut mounts come pre-assembled in these kits. This drastically cuts down on installation time and reduces the risk of injury from compressing springs on your own. The aggressive stance and improved handling makes this a must own suspension mod for any S197 Mustang. Watch our full installation video below to see how you can drastically improve your handling with one of these Ford Racing Suspension Kits.
Stay tuned because Stage 3 is just around the corner and we are looking to make some serious horsepower gains in the next part of this build. You don’t want to miss out on the next stage of our project 2014 Mustang GT.
Get rid of the small barely noticeable factory spoiler on your 2010-14 Mustang! Replace it with an aggressive race inspired rear spoiler from Roush Performance Parts! This is the same spoiler that is featured on the supercharged 5.0L Roush RS3. Follow along in this video as we walk you through the installation of t... more
Add an extremely aggressive look to the rear of your 2013-14 Mustang with the Roush Rear Valance kit. This rear diffuser is designed to work with the Roush “squre” tip axle back exhaust kit. In the first two stages of this 2014 Mustang GT project we made huge improvements to the exterior, suspension, and brakes. The final stage of this project consisted of two simple steps. Step one – do a little interior dress up. The interior needed a little improvement to match the new Roush Exterior. The second step and the most important one – Make More Power!
We accomplished the interior upgrades with the help of the Roush Illuminated Door Sills and a set of Roush Floor Mats. The illuminated door sills made for an awesome upgrade that really stands out at night time! The floor mats completed the Roush RS3 conversion and gave the interior a true Roush Performance Mustang look and feel.
We decided to completely skip the whole “bolt-on” parts upgrades and jumped straight into making big power with a Roush Supercharger Kit. The Roush Mustang Supercharger Kits include everything you need to bolt on an extra 150+ HP right from the comforts of your very own garage! These kits include the super-efficient and very powerful 2.3L TVS blowers to help make impressive horsepower numbers.
In the case of our automatic 2014 Mustang GT, it put down an impressive 519 HP and 493 ft. lbs of torque with a VMP custom tune on their 224xLC Dynojet mobile dyno. Be sure to check out the video below!
Unleash serious horsepower in your 2011-14 Mustang with the Roush Phase 2 Supercharger kit. These kits use the powerful 2.3L TVS blower to produce incredible horsepower gains.
