The 1991 Mustang LX came standard with a 2.3 L four cylinder with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The 225 hp 5.0 L V-8 engine was optional. The four cylinder engine was revisited by Ford engineers for the 1991 fox body though, and it now had a twin-plug design with two spark plugs per cylinder to increase efficiency. The effect was an additional 15hp, bringing it up to a rating of 105 hp. Both the LX and the GT models were built with coil spring MacPherson struts in the front, and a four link coil spring suspension in the rear.
