Like the previous few years, the 1990 Mustang LX came standard with the 90 hp 2.3 L four cylinder with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The 225 hp 5.0 L V-8 engine was optional. Both the LX and the GT models were built with coil spring MacPherson struts in the front, and a four link coil spring suspension in the rear. New additions to all the 1990 Fox Body 'Stangs was a driver's side airbag and three-point rear seat belts. To accommodate the airbag, the tilt steering function was removed, and the wheel itself was redesigned. The LX 5.0 also received a dead pedal, copied from the GT model.
