Not too many changes were made to the fox-body from 1987 to 1988. The changes that were made were mostly small or visual changes, such as the introduction of an in-demand yellow paint color. Ford produced a few hundred "Tropical Yellow" mustangs to appease the masses. Both the LX and the GT received a higher amperage alternator and larger capacity battery. The 1988 Mustang LX came standard with the 90 hp 2.3 L four cylinder with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The 5.0 L V-8 engine, producing 225 hp, was optional. Both models were built with coil spring MacPherson struts in the front, and a four link coil spring suspension in the rear.
