The 1979 Mustang was all new, and based on the Fox body platform, which was initially used on the Ford Fairmont and the Mercury Zephyr. The interior was totally redesigned and had a smaller back seat, but could still comfortably fit four people. Engine choices were carried over from the Mustang II line, and included a 2.3L inline four cylinder that produced 88 hp, a 109 hp V-6, and the 4.9 L Windsor V-8 which produced 140 hp.
