Well, they're made for 86 and up exhaust systems or people that have converted (like me) they're 79-85 to true dual exhaust. Now that being said, if you're 85 mufflers are in the same spot as the 86 and up, these may fit with some tweaking. Maybe someone with more specific knowledge to your 85 can chime in.

Yes! These Mustang tailpipes are designed to fit any 86-97 Mustang exhaust system with 2.5" piping. I would recommend having them professionally installed at a muffler/exhaust shop so they can weld and adjust as needed.

The routing on a 1998 is different. They would require modification plus the addition of a dual exhaust conversion in order to work on a 98 V-6, Ultimately these are not what you need for a 1998 V-6 Mustang.

If being installed by a competent exhaust shop, they can make them fit with relative ease. Employee Scott G. is running these on his 93 coupe with the MM panhard bar.

You might have to get your local muffler shop to trim the ends of these pipes where the hangers are under the car depending on the length of the muffler and how they bolt up to the car.

With minor modification by an exhaust shop, they can be made to work. The reason for the year cutting off at 97 is due to the exhaust hangers having a different orientation. It is something that can be easily changed by an exhaust shop.
