A common failure on Fox Mustangs is on the power steering rack, the outer shaft seals start leaking, allowing power steering fluid to pour out into the outer rag boots, causing a failure of the power assist in your steering system, not to mention an unsightly oil puddle in your driveway. To correct this problem, we put together this 5.0Resto power steering rack kit that includes a new steering rack, steering rack bushings, and outer tie rod ends. The steering rack included in the kit is a 15 to 1 sport ratio, like you'd find in your 5.0-liter equipped Mustangs from the factory.
It is a remanufactured unit that is fully disassembled. The housing and shafts are thoroughly inspected. And all new seals and bushings are installed, along with brand new inner tie rod ends and rack boots. Included in the box are a couple of rubber bushings. You can go ahead and toss those. You won't need them for this install.
Then we go on to some polyurethane rack bushings. We chose urethane rack bushings for this kit because they're not prone to failure like the stock rubber ones. They're resistance to oil and grease. And they're going to firm up your steering feel.
Finally, we chose some premium quality outer tie rod ends that are greasable and also threw in a new set of outer tie rod lock nuts. That way, you don't have to disassemble anything off of your stock rack when it comes time for installation.
