A common ailment on Fox body convertibles is that the quarter windows kind of do stuff and things that they're not really supposed to, like move back and forth, in and out, and wobble around a lot. And a lot of that is caused by a broken lower guide rod mount which originally was plastic.
Luckily, we have a 5.0 Resto quarter window renewal kit that includes our exclusive billed aluminum guide rod mounts. These will permanently solve that problem. And along with those, we include a new set of guide rod bushings and a brand new set of window lift motors.
Installation can be time consuming, so you're going to want to allow yourself enough time during the weekend to get this kit installed. And without taking up too much more of your time, we want to show you some of the high points of how to get this kit on your convertible.
Pop out the rear seat bottom cushion. Remove the interior quarter trim panel. Remove the two window regulator plate bolts at the rear of the plate, and then lower the top. Remove the seat belt and support brace, along with the cross support.
Unplug the window motor connector and remove the plastic shield. Remove the remaining window regulator plate bolts and the upper brace nut. Pop off the regulator arm E-clip and slide off the regulator arm and washers.
Break off the rear plastic shield rivet, and finally, remove the window regulator plate. Remove the two window glass guide bracket nuts and the two lower guide rod mount bolts, and remove the guide rod assembly from the car.
Slide the guide bracket off the guide rod and separate the guide rod from the plastic mount. Remove the two adjusting nuts and the guide rod mount plate from the bracket. Drive out the existing rivet mandrills and drill out the old attaching rivets. Remove the remaining rivet bodies and bolt the new guide rod mount into place, using the supplied hardware.
Thoroughly clean all the old grease and any corrosion from the guide rod. Then attach the guide rod to the new mount, using the supplied clevis pin and cotter pin. Loosely install the two adjusting nuts in the guide rod mount plate to the bracket. Pop out the old guide rod bushings and snap new ones into place.
Slightly loosen the adjusting bolts, both top and bottom, and slide the guide bracket back onto the rod. Position the guide rod assembly in the well, and loosely install the lower guide rod mount bolts. Put the glass back onto the bracket and reinstall the two retaining nuts. Slide the window regulator plate back into place, and reinstall all the accessible forward bolts.
Remove the window motor and adapter bracket. Remove the adapter from the old motor and install it on the new motor, reusing the existing bolts. Make sure the motor gear is fully engaged in the regulator, and bolt the motor back down to the plate.
Slide the regulator arm back onto the guide assembly. Raise the top, and with the quarter window in the full up position, tighten the two guide rod mount plate adjusting nuts and the two mounting bolts. Lower the window and tighten the four guide rod bushing plate bolts. You'll need to repeat these steps as necessary until you achieve the correct glass alignment. Reinstall the rear two window regulator plate bolts.
This really is a time-consuming install, and I can't stress enough that you really need to spend as much time as necessary on the final adjustments, even if it takes you just as long or longer than it did to install the parts, because if you don't get it right, you will have air and water leaks. And your windows aren't going to go up and down properly.

From now on, I will not shop anywhere else other than LateModelRestoration for my 88 5.0. The kit was exactly what was needed. But even BETTER was the step by step installation instructions with pictures that your web site provides. This made all the difference. With this guidance, it took about 10 hours to do both windows. I have owned this car for 18 years and like to think it is part on my ongoing "therapy". Vortech Supercharger, Cobra Intake, MSD Ignition, 24lb per hour injectors, 65 MM Throttle Body, Rear Disc Brake Conversion, 3.55 rear end, JBA Headers, Larger Fuel Pump, Cobra Wheels, Springs From Ford Racing, and it's a 5 speed. This Stang Rocks!!

This kit was a perfect fit and everything we needed to get the windows working properly. The only improvement I would recommend is to send or make available directions to install. It is a painstaking process without knowledge of how the convertible works.
Yes, I would recommend this item to a friend!

Well me and my girlfriend had a day off and decided to take a road trip to Late Model Restoration. Let me tell you, we had the best CUSTOMER SERVICE ever. Jay was very helpful and knowledgeable about the parts I purchased. The showroom was clean and inviting. Also I got to meet JMAC that host's all of their YouTube videos. They also had project BLUE COLLAR in the parking lot, and it is NICE. I will recommend Late Model to everyone I know...
