The inner door belt weatherstrip, also known as dew wipes, on Fox Body Mustangs are often worn and weathered from years of service. They are located along the top edge of the door panel on the inside of the door window. They act as a “catch” to help keep debris from entering the inside of your door.
Installing new inner door belt weatherstripping on your Fox Body requires you to remove the door panel. If you need help removing your door panel, check out the following video - http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/products/Fox-Body-Mustang-Door-Panel-Removal-Video . Once the door panel is removed installation take just a couple of minutes and your dew wipes are as good as new thanks to the 5.0Resto replacements!
We often get two questions involving inner door belt weather strips for Fox Mustangs. And that's, which one do I need? And how do I put them on?
Well, there's only two versions available-- one that fits '81 to '93 hard tops, which includes all of your coup and hatch backs, whether they're solid roof, sun roof, or T-top. It'll even fit '83 to '87 convertibles, as long as they have the mirrors just like these. If your convertible has the door-mounted pedestal style mirror, then you're going to need the '88 to '93 convertible-specific version. The installation really isn't all that bad, especially when you're using quality 50resto replacement weather strips and attaching hardware. The first thing you're going to want to do is watch our door panel removal video, that way you can get caught up to our next step.
Locate and remove all the staples that retain the weather strip to the door panel. You can use a screwdriver, pliers, or a combo of the two. They're pretty stout, so be careful and take your time.
Remove the old whether strip from the door panel. Line up the tab of the new weather strip with the notch on the door panel. Using a power drill with a Phillips head driver, install the new inner belt weather strip with our 50resto hardware kit.
The screws will tap their own holes or you can drill small pilot holes if you desire. Use six screws per panel. Repeat all these steps for the other side.
And there you go. It's that's simple. And in case you're wondering, no those screws will not make contact with your door glass. And the backs of the screws will still allow for easy installation onto the door frame. SPEAKER: We're going to show you how to remove your door panel on your '87 to '93 Mustang, , because you have to remove this panel to get to just about anything. There are door lock actuators, window motors, you name it. Really simple. You need a Phillips head screwdriver, a nut driver with a 3/8 socket, and a door panel removal tool, available off of our website.
Start by removing the Phillips head screw holding on the mirror hole cover. Then, remove the single Phillips head screw holding on the inner door handle bezel. And the Phillips head screw holding on the base of the speaker grille.
Now you've got two Phillips head screws, one at the front, and one at the back of your door armrest. Going ahead and remove those. Then grab you a small, flat-blade screwdriver, and you can remove your door armrest hole plugs. OK. Then you can grab your 3/8 socket and remove the two bolts that are remaining, holding on the arm rest.
Then you can lift up on the armrest, out, and pull it away from the door, and you've got two electrical connectors that you need to undo. And then you can move the arm rest out of the way. Grab your door panel removal tool and work your way around the perimeter of the door panel.
You've got 12 plastic clips that retain this poor panel to the door. Some of them may not be holding on anymore. Just remove the ones that are. And once all your clips are loose, you can lift up on the door panel, and pull it off of the car.
And now you have full access to everything inside the door that you're going to need to repair, or just to replace your panel.
