Replacing the carpet in your Fox body Mustang is one of the easiest and most effective ways to improve the conditions of your interior. It is a simple, one person installation and can be done in just one day. Our high quality ACC carpet is pre-formed and molded to fit your Mustang for a seamless, OE look. Carpet comes with the factory style heel pad securely attached and will re-carpet the entire passenger area from the firewall to the back seat. Installation will require cutting for bolt holes and trimming of excess material.
ACC pre-formed, molded Mustang floor carpet is made of heavy weight 16oz cut-pile carpeting combined with 40oz jute padding. This combination makes for a beautiful, long-wearing carpet. This weight coupled with a factory style backing gives your new Mustang carpet a "mold memory". Once it’s installed, it continues to shape itself to the contours of your floor. Remember, when you take it out of the carton, the weight of the carpet and padding will tend to cause it to "flatten out" but once it’s on the floor of your Mustang, it will return to shape.

Cut Pile Carpet Style
As is the case with many latemodel vehicles the latemodel Ford Mustang came from the factory with cut-pile style carpet. Cut pile carpet is a form of carpet that involves a strategic cut of the loops that are created during the weaving of a carpet. The loops are cut to the same height and allowed to tuft slightly. This approach gives the carpet pile the appearance of softness and often appears to be very dense and provides a cushion for the foot.

Follow along in the video as Jmac shows you how to remove a Mustang center console. To gain access to certain parts on your Fox Mustang, you will need to remove your center console. Some of the most common reasons to remove your center console are to replace old worn out components such as Ash Tray Doors, Lower Shift Boots or even old dirty carpet. JONATHAN MCDONALD: Hey, everybody. Jmac here with more interior tech. Today we're going to be showing you how to remove your center console. Now removing your center console is necessary to gain access to your shifter or even just your lower shifter boot.
Now it is a little involved, so follow along and we'll show you step by step what needs to be done. We're going to start by removing your center console armrest. Go ahead and pop off your oval plug and grab you a 5/16 or 8-millimeter socket, and you can remove the two bolts on each side that hold the armrest onto the console.
Repeat that process for the other side. I already have ours done. So you can just pick straight up on the armrest and it'll come free of the console.
You can set it out of the way, and we'll move up here to the shifter handle. Just pop up your shifter boot and bezel. You can just pick it up. And then remove the two bolts that hold onto your shifter handle.
Now every shifter's going to have a different piece of hardware holding it on, so you're going to use anywhere from a 10-millimeter to a 13-millimeter socket, or even an Allen-head socket for some aftermarket shifters. You just remove those two bolts to get that handle out of the way.
Then go ahead and remove your AC trim bezel. That just snaps out of place really easily. And grab you a set of radio removal tools. If you still have the stock radio, we have these available on our website. If you've got an aftermarket radio in your car, you have four screws holding in the adapter plate, so you can pull those four screws out to gain access to the back of the radio.
Engage those into place. Pull out and straight back on the radio. And unplug your antenna and then your two electrical connectors from the back. Set that out of the way.
Now we can move on over here to the driver's side. You're going after remove your lower column cover. It's held on by two Phillips' head screws. You've got one over here by the key release button. Get it out of the way. And then one over here, right underneath the lock cylinder. And then your lower column cover comes free. Make sure and keep your screws with it, because you don't want to be hunting around for screws later.
Now your plastic cover, trim cover, for the bottom of the dash, it's held on at the bottom with three screws, and it's got two push clips up here. This car is already missing one screw. It's 5/16 or 8-millimeter head. Go ahead and pull those out of the way.
And grab hold of the panel and pull straight back to disengage the clips. You can set it out of the way. Then you've got this metal trim piece. It's held on, again, with two bolts. It's got either 5/16 or 8-millimeter head. We want to pull those out of the way. Then that metal plate comes free.
Now you want to drop your glove box, open it up, and then push in on both sides, and then it'll completely fall down. Because you have two Phillips-head screws on this side and two Phillips-head screws on this side that you need to remove.
Now you can go ahead and remove the two Phillips-head screws at the front of the console top panel. Then the two Phillips-head screws at the back of the console top panel. Pull up on your E-brake handle and you can take your console top panel up and off.
Then disconnect your two electrical connections-- one for the cigarette lighter and then the other one for the power mirror switch, if your car's equipped. Then your console top panel is free. Now you have two more Phillips-head screws at the back of the console that need to come out.
And now your console is free. Lower your E-brake handle back down, pick up on the back of the console, and pull straight back. Lift up, and you've got an electrical connector over here for your trunk release. It simply pops out of place, and your console is free from the car.

To remove your old carpet you will have to remove your seats, center console and some of the interior panels. If you own a '79 to '93 Fox Mustang, more than likely your carpet is showing signs of fading, staining, and might even smell like an old gym sock. Replacing your car can seem like quite a daunting task because you do have to remove a good portion your interior to even get your old carpet out. Then you have to go through and carefully mark, and then cut, holes in your brand new carpet.
Luckily it's not all that bad, although it is time consuming. We can show you all the steps that you'll need to do to get the job done. Now this is reproduction carpet. It will not fit exactly like the factory. But if you put in the effort this carpet will lay down, look, and smell a lot better than that stained stinky carpet you have right now.
First things you're going to want to do is watch our seat removal video and our console removal video to get those out of the way so you can get your old carpet out on the floor. Unbox your new carpet and unfold it. And work your way around forming it back into shape. The warmer the temperature is the easier your job will be.
Place your new carpet face down and lay your old carpet over the top. Position it as closely as possible to the new carpet and use a marker to trace all of the openings for the shifter, emergency brake, seats, and seat belts. These will be close, not exact. When you start cutting cut small. You can cut larger once the carpet is in the car.
With all of your holes rough cut, lay the carpet out in the floor pan of the car. Tuck it up under the dash and along the firewall. You may have to remove your dead pedal if you're cars equipped with one. Starting along the transmission tunnel, enlarge your cut outs as needed to fit properly.
Make sure and pull through all of your wiring harnesses. From underneath the car you could locate can cut out the rear seat track bolt holes. Install your lower shifter boot if you have a manual transmission. Finish working your way around locating and enlarging all the needed holes for your seats and seat belts. If you find yourself with any randomly wrinkles you can use the hairdryer to help smooth those out.

As you know the carpet on any convertible takes more abuse than any coupe. I ordered this kit to freshen up the interior. It showed up super fast, was the best price I could find and went in very smoothly. It did require some trimming and fine tuning. The LMR videos are always a help. They covered the center console removal and tips for the install. The one piece of advise I can offer would be to use your existing carpet as a template for the shifter, emergency brake and console support holes. Don't trim the front, sides or rear until it is positioned properly in the car. Mine had some extra to trim but not so much that I didn't have to be cautious. Last bit of advise is to install the seats, seat belts, kick panels and quarter trim BEFORE you trim for the sill plate.
